Quality, time, cost – pick two

I wish I had a dollar for every time I've said this to a client at the first briefing. Rarely do you get all three, but in this instance we did, and the result speaks for itself.

Mark Watkins is the owner and distiller of Mt Uncle Distillery located in Far North Queensland. The distillery is nestled in the foothills amongst tropical fruit plantations and Australian flora. Inspired by the surrounding environment and the story of early Australian Colonisation, Botanic Australis Gin is blended with 14 Australian native botanicals such as Lemon Scented Gum, River Mint and Wattle Seed, all sourced from our client’s doorstep.

Working with a Chinese manufacturer we were commissioned to design a bottle that took its cues from the early colonial style, using thick glass with heavy embossing.

The label decoration was screen printed on all four sides of the bottle which is sealed with a wooden topped cork finish.

Projects like this take time and dealing with off-shore companies can be challenging, but after a 10 month process the end result was well worth the pedantic efforts and hours put in by senior designer, Emma Weber.

Many packaging projects don't have the luxury of five months lead time for production to get to market, but in so many instances it can be done with just a little more forward thinking.
