Growing an Australian sesame brand from the ground up
KSD was engaged by the Australian Sesame Project to help transform an emerging Australian agricultural opportunity into a distinctive premium food brand.
With commercial sesame production still in its infancy in Australia, the challenge extended beyond creating a new product identity. It required defining how Australian-grown sesame could be positioned, understood and valued by consumers — while creating a brand capable of supporting the development of a broader Australian sesame category.
Working closely with the founders, KSD established the strategic foundations for TOSTÉ — bringing Korean sesame oil knowledge and tradition together with locally grown Australian sesame.
Central to the strategy was a deliberate shift away from the conventional perception of sesame oil as primarily an ingredient for Asian cooking. Instead, TOSTÉ was positioned as a premium finishing oil — encouraging new occasions for use and placing provenance, flavour and craftsmanship at the centre of the experience.
